Introduction
In this unit, you will understand the basic geography of France and its overseas regions; basic historic events and people of historical importance, as well as identify French symbols. You will encounter reading and listening in French. You'll be asked to discuss, write and speak in French using the vocabulary and grammar structures practiced in the course.

- describe in French using a series of sentences
- identify key words, supporting details, main ideas and organizational features in readings and videos
- infer the author's perspective, the meaning of words in context, and cultural perspectives in readings and videos
- discuss in easily understandable French using new vocabulary words and relevant information about the target culture
- discuss and compare to your culture in standard American English with relevant information about the target culture
