Course Information & Requirements

In this course, you will encounter reading and listening in French. You'll be asked to discuss, write and speak in French using the vocabulary and grammar structures practiced in the course.

Course Goal Statement

Upon successful completion of this course, you will understand the basic geography of France and its overseas regions; basic historic events and people of historical importance, as well as identify French symbols.

You will be reading and listening to French written for native speakers. I’ve chosen readings and listenings that are easier to comprehend or were written using simple French, but you will encounter unfamiliar structures and vocabulary. This is by design. Take those moments when you encounter unfamiliar things to take careful notes and contact me when you have questions!

The course requires you to use a teleconferencing tool such as Google Hangouts or Skype for your interpersonal communication assessment and practices. You'll need to become familiar with recording your conversations. Here's an article on how to set up recording with Skype or Google Hangouts.

In addition to the above, you will encounter activities to the following sites:

Accessibility

The site and the course were designed with ADA in mind. Videos are provided with links to transcripts or closed captions when available.

Due to the nature of assessing listening, there are some videos which do not have transcripts or closed captions. If you have any hearing impairments, you will need to contact me before the course begins. Interpersonal communication and interpretive listening assessments will need to be modified.
